can someone tell me a simple way to convert J to eV? thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[1eV = 1.6 * 10^{-19} J\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[1 ~\text {Joule}=6.2\times10^{18}~\text{eV}\] \[1.6\times10^{-19} ~\text {J}=1~\text{electonVolt}\]

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

I eV is the energy gained by an elementary charge under a pd of 1V. As Energy = charge.pd, and plugging in coherent SI units, the answer is: e = 1.6 10(-19) C pd = 1V 1 eV = 1.6 10(-19) C.V = 1.6 10(-19) J J and C.V are the same unit.

Just divide the answer which is in joules by 1.602*10^-19 and we get the result in ev
