The moon forms a right triangle with the Earth and the sun during one of its phases. -------------------- A scientist measures the angle x and the distance y between the Earth and the sun. Explain how the scientist can use only these two measurements to calculate the distance between the moon and the sun.

OpenStudy (zepp):

With trigonometry. Now, to the angle x, y is the opposite, adjacent or the hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y is the adjacent im pretty sure

OpenStudy (zepp):

That' right, and the distance between the Sun and and Moon? Adj, Opp or Hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hypo

OpenStudy (zepp):

Adjacent and Hypotenuse, what kind of relation this is? (sin, cos or tan)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cos i think?

OpenStudy (zepp):

There you go :)

OpenStudy (zepp):

Some handy notes here: SOH - Sine Opposite/Hypotenuse CAH - Cosine Adjacent/Hypotenuse TOA - Tangent Opposite/Adjacent SOHCAHTOA :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wish a teacher explained that to me -_- sometimes unpaid help is the best.

OpenStudy (zepp):

LOL ;)
