can someone please show me how to get from m(d^2x/dt^2)=-kx to x(t)=A cos (omega t)

it requires a knowledge of solving ordinary differential equations... usually at not-that-high-level physics they say to insert sine or cos function and see that they both satisfy this differential equation..
