find the sum 8x^3+4x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please explain before u go giving me answers lol or i will not understand

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You can't add 8x^3 and 4x because they aren't like terms. So there's nothing you can do here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these are not like terms, so you cannot add them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean you can say you would like to add them by writing \(8x^3+4x\) but you cannot combine them in to one term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhm the 3 is an exponent just in case u dont know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes and that is why then are not like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

satelite thats exactly how the problem looks i just dont know how to do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like terms means same variable and same exponent no i believe you, it is just that you cannot add them in to one term. perhaps that is what you are supposed to say

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry that was the wrong problem anyway :( im having a terrible time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

post the next one; you will get lots of help i am sure
