What is the minimum total energy released when an electron and its antiparticle (positron) annihilate each other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use mass of electron and plug it into E=mcsquared

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh unless positron has a mass also then you have to use the mass of both.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

E= (mass of electron + mass of positron) * c^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

electron and positron have a rest mass of 0.511 Mev/c^2, so the energy produced during annihilation would be 0.511*2 =1.022 Mev
