As for an explanation of terminal velocity, basically what happens is that as you fall, you speed up and get faster and faster because of the pull of gravity. Now, there's a force pushing in the opposite direction, and that is air resistance. Air resistance depends on the object, amount of surface area, that kind of thing. But it also depends on how quickly you're falling. The faster you fall, the more air resistance pushes up on you. Eventually, if you get going fast enough, air resistance pushes up against your fall as much as gravity pulls you down. At that point, you stop accelerating. You fall at that speed until something else happens.
