OpenStudy (calculator):

When HCOOCH(CH3)2 is hydrolysed, an alcohol is produced, What reagent can be used to hydrolyse an ester to an alcohol?

OpenStudy (calculator):

I thought you add NaBH4?

OpenStudy (calculator):

@Kryten

OpenStudy (anonymous):

acid

OpenStudy (calculator):

why? is it something with redox?

OpenStudy (callisto):

LiAlH4/H3O^+, dry ether, (heat under reflux)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LiAlH4, ether and then H3O+ is a good choice. Another one, but not so good as above is "1.DIBAH in toluene 2.H3O+" (more aldehydes than alcohol)

OpenStudy (calculator):

I want to know why you use those

OpenStudy (callisto):

Sorry, I just remember it.

OpenStudy (calculator):

how you remember all? i mean i remember it like this, alkene-->alcohol , add acid alcohol--> carboxylic acid , add acid if work backwards use base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

text book can act as a handbook, just read it again and again.

OpenStudy (callisto):

Hmm... Just read that several times, draw a diagram.. Wait! I shall show you mine later..

OpenStudy (callisto):

I remember my hard time remembering this diagram :S
