Solve 3(5)^(2x-3)=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide by 3 to both sides then take the natural log of both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide ln5 to both sides so you now have: 2x-3 = 2/(ln5) can you take it from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Possibly =) Is my next step: 4x-6=(ln5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dpaInc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no.. just solve for x... add 3 to both sides...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x= 2/(ln5)+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep... now get rid of that 2 on the left by multiplying 1/2 to both sides... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= 1/(ln2.5)+1.5??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did the 5 change to 2.5? it doesn't...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

other than that, your answer is good....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so: x= 1/(ln5)+1.5 Which leads to: x=1/0.698970004 + 1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah... just use x= 1/(ln5)+1.5 as the exact form. put it in your calculator for an approximation... if you want.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When I round it to the nearest hundredth I get 2.93 =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lemme check...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm. i got 2.121

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I probably misentered something =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no.. i see an error above..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did I enter a step wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... i did.. :( sorry but it's easily correctable...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem at all! I am glad you caught it =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually it occurred in my first post.. "take the natural log of both sides"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so this is what we should've gotten: 2x-3 = ln2/(ln5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

doing the same algebra: 2x = ln2/ln5 + 3 x = (1/2)*(ln2/ln5 + 3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.. let's try that again... punch that into your calculator...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got x=1.715 and i put this value back into the original equation and it works out.... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats exactly what I got! =) Except I rounded to the hundredth to get 1.72 =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good job swim!:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!! =) Would you mind helping me with two more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no..... i don't mind.... :)
