Solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\log _{5} (2x-1) = -2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any ideas Vikash? :)

OpenStudy (jkristia):

(2x-1) = 5^-2. Now solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

U know me Furtive ? today is my first day here although... it it log base 5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(2x-1)=5^{-2}\] jkristia?

OpenStudy (jkristia):

yes, then solve for x. The double check by inserting x into the original equation. On your calculator you can check by log(2x-1)/log(5) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you remove the power? Sorry :P

OpenStudy (jkristia):

you dont, you evaluate it. 5^(-2) = 1 / 5^2 = 1/25

OpenStudy (jkristia):

well, yeah - that removes it too :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahhh, i look silly, thanks man :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer x = 0.25 = 1/4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is my answer correct ?
