why isnt conc H2So4 used to dry Ammonia?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Callisto @apoorvk @ujjwal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

coz i believe it will make a salt called ammonium sulphate

OpenStudy (callisto):

Because conc H2SO4(acid) reacts with NH3 (alkali)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(NH4)2SO4

OpenStudy (callisto):

To dry a gas, the drying agent should NOT react with the gas

sam (.sam.):

ammonia and water will form some amount of ammonium hydroxide, NH4OH. Then hydroxide will react with the acid hydrogen ions from H2SO4 and forms water, also, addition of an acid to even a weak base like NH4OH is counter of drying

thanks alot guyz :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i am not able to give medals for everyone..

OpenStudy (callisto):

Give it to @hashsam1 or @.Sam. would be a super nice idea :D
