The New Line. HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A line has the same slope as the line represented by 4x - 3y +15 =0 and the same y-intercept as the line represented by 2x + y +6=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Determine the equation of this line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. First determine the slope of your existing line by placing in y=mx+b form and getting m 2. Determine the y-0int of the other line by placing in y=mx+b form and taking the b value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The slope of the first equation: 3y=4x+15 y=(4/3)x+5 slpe is 4/3 Intercept of the second equation: y=-2x-6 intercept is -6 So the final equation is y=(4/3)x-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did it turn from a 15 to a 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide 15 by the coefficient of y, which is 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is the 4x not turned to a -4x but for the 2x it was turned to a -2x?

OpenStudy (alexwee123):

because when you isolate y in 4x - 3y +15 =0 you would subtract 15 and 4x on both sides then divide by -3 -3y=-4x-15 y=4/3x+5

OpenStudy (alexwee123):

same thing for the second equation
