Translate into a variable expression then simplify. A number added to the difference between twice the number and four.

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Let x = a number. Can you write the expression for "a number added to the difference between twice the number and four"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. This confuse me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+(....) 1 2x is twice 2 x +(2x-4) 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really need help

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

"a number added to the difference between twice the number and four" x + - 2 x 4 So we know the expression has to contain all these numbers and symbols. So the "difference between twice the number and four" implies 2x-4. Can you do it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A number added to the difference between twice the number and four. | | | | | | | | x + ( ? - ? ) 2x 4 the 2x and 4 go here ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pfenn so it will be x+2x-4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it could be that but it is safer to always use perenthesis to group things together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh and simplify the q states that x +(2x-4) add like terms 3x-4

Thanks for the help. Cool
