Music from the Medieval era is part of a larger classification known as "early music," even though the era starts around the year 450 AD. Coming before early music and the Medieval era, there was also prehistoric or primitive music and ancient music. What do you think these time periods would have been like? What would you imagine music to be like prior to the Medieval era? If music notation only got its beginning during the Medieval era, how do you think music was shared?

I haven't found anything that could help you on this, however, this is just for your journal. It doesn't have an exact answer for it. It's just your thoughts on it so this won't be hard! Just go a little bit back & time & think about yourself if you where a musician. How would your music get shared? Probably through family. Like the Greeks, their stories would get shared through families & families so on... I would think music would have been the same. We also read that musicans in those time where usually travelers & would play for kings & queens. Just some thoughts that might help you! You just really have to think about it & just put your thoughts down! Hope this helps!

Medieval music was an integral part of everyday life for the people of that time period. Music of the Middle Ages was especially popular during times of celebration and festivities. Music was often played during holidays and special parties. During weddings and birthdays, the music was especially uplifting. For weddings and on Valentine's Day, lovers' music was played that was sure to evoke a romantic atmosphere. This type of music was called "chivaree." The musicians would play buoyant and cheery music with crescendos. Many a different Medieval music instrument was played, including, recorders, horns, trumpets, whistles, bells, and drums. On Mayday, dancers would dance to specially-prepared, high-pitched music. It was believed that by doing so, the hibernating spirits would be awakened and forewarned that spring had arrived. During Christmas, the sound of bells brought the good news of Jesus' birth to the listeners. People during the Middle Ages also ate to the sound of traditional music during and between meal courses. They would also, at times play from a specially-built platform or stage at the end of the Great Hall. It was believed in those days that medieval music was not only delightful to the ears, but it also helped in the digestion of food, hence the reason for music at mealtimes. The music of Medieval times was very important to the listeners of that era, whether it be for special celebrations, holidays, or for something as simple as eating a meal. - http://www.medieval-life.net/music.htm

is that the answer? i only need like two sentences

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nononno! That's just about how music was before. You could probably say something like: I would think music was very simple in those times, probably just singing & flutes or string instruments. I think it would get passed around by family just like the Greeks & their stories would get passed around.

Think of something in your life today that reminds you of the Baroque era—music, art, architecture, etc. What characteristics does it have that that make you think it may have Baroque origins? what about this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Baroque reminds me in some ways of Interior design. Interior design usually has to be something new, something that not all the houses have. It has to be bizarre. Art is also something that reminds me of that. Art sometimes has to be exaggerated.

thank you for helping mee ! what about this onee . During the Classical era, music was not being written specifically for the church as much as in previous eras. How do you think this affected the music composed? Do you think the general public had more or less access to the music being written during the Classical era?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem! (: I would think that musicians where pretty much writting music for plays & stuff. Music was more exagereated then music like before. Church music would have been more simple. In some ways yes, people would have more access to it, however in some way no. Since music was being played for plays and shows, people would not really remember the music however, if music was being played in church people were actually singing it & were remembering the music.

*exaggerated

Music from the Romantic era was most well known for its ability to express emotion. Think of a song you know well that expresses some kind of emotion. What emotion(s) is it, and what techniques are used by the composer/performer to convey that emotion?
