i will be starting a maths degree in September and would like to be fully prepared. i finish college at the beginning of July. what would you reccomend i read/ have a look at?
i mentioned july as i will have the period from july to september completely free of school work.
drink beer
i already have that planned out perfectly xD
Reading as in textbooks? Or just in general?
Good luck man... and keep your brain busy over the summer....
intellectually that is....
either :) i have a few books, one is a proper introduction to calculus and i have two entitled "Mathematical methods for science students" and "mathematical methods for the physical sciences" the last two sound a bit science based but i've looked through and there's lots of maths. what i'm interested in is whether there are any suggestions for things i can read which are related to the first year of the course
i have to go eat, i'll be on later
One classic book, not really a textbook, is "Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid." It's an excellent book especially if you're interested in the fundamental underpinnings of mathematics.
If you want more of a textbook style, check out http://www.e-booksdirectory.com/ as there are a lot of math textbooks of varying levels and fields that you can download for free. If you actually want a book, you can always check out http://store.doverpublications.com/index.html since they tend to have some pretty good books for cheap.
