help me solve this problem by quadratic formula: y^2+7y-6=0

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

quadratic formula is \[\large y = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}\] do you know which is a, b and c in your problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=1, b=7, c=-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, i plugged in the numbers and I got 7+- the square root of 53 over 2...I do not think that is right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Go back and recheck your formula. You probably forgot to attach your negative sign to b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

check your b^-4ac

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, -7+- the square root of 73, over 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did I get that right this time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :) good job!
