4!(7 – 4)! I need help on how to figure this problem out step by step.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

When you have an exclamation point at the end of the number like that, you're multiplying that number by every whole number that is less than it until you hit 1. So 6! for example is 6! = 6*5*4*3*2*1 = 720

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So what is 4!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 4! would be 24 right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you got it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Now to find (7-4)!, you first evaluate what you see in the parenthesis. So 7-4 = 3 So (7-4)! becomes 3!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Now what is 3!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3! would be 6.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh wait I misread

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so 4!(7-4)! becomes 4!3! which becomes 24*6 and that turns into 144 Therefore, 4!(7-4)! = 144

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay I got it now! Thank you SO much :DDD

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome :)
