Sam made this cardboard cutout below. Sam wants to add 4 polygons to PQRST to create rectangle ABCD, where the points P, Q, R, S, T lie on the sides of the rectangle. Which statement about the polygons he adds must be true? -Each has 4 sides. -Each has all acute angles. -All four polygons are concave. -All four polygons are irregular.

so does this mean it is A)all have four sides?

@apoorvk

hero (hero):

I thought I did help you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but is it A, then?

hero (hero):

Does a triangle have 4 sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

hero (hero):

If you look closely, you'll see that the 4 smaller polygons that were added form triangles. Sure, the larger polygon is a rectangle, but the smaller ones are triangles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but its talking about a polygin and a rectangle? im confused ;/ theres something I am doing wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i looked at the image, its true....so it is B

hero (hero):

You have to look closer to see that 4 smaller polygons added are triangles

hero (hero):

I'm still here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I looked at the image, so it is B

hero (hero):

The angles aren't ALL acute. They form 90 degree angles at certain points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because option c doesnt seem fit, it doesnt indicate wether they are concave(similar side and angles)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually with what you just wrote, seems like it is option c?

hero (hero):

What about option D ?

hero (hero):

You seemed to have automatically eliminated that as a possibility

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well option D, can be a possibilty but at the same time there is a point where the form 90 degree angles

hero (hero):

Do those smaller polygons look regular to you? A polygon is either regular or irregular. We both know that the only way a triangle can be regular is if all three angles are 60 degrees.

hero (hero):

Do you want me to explain this to you in vyew?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are not regular

hero (hero):

Precisely. So they must be irregular
