Factor the following polynomial: x2 + 20x + 36 (x + 2)(x + 10) (x + 6)(x + 6) (x + 9)(x + 4) (x + 2)(x + 18)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x+a)(x+b)=x^2+(a+b)x+ab\]So, \(a\) and \(b\) need to have what sum and product?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To factor multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant in the last term. Which is 36(1,2,3,4,6,9,12,18 and 36) then look for 2 factors of 36 that can add to give you 20.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From that being said what do you think your answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I DO NOT KNOW

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2+2x+18x+36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I TINK IT IS THE LAST ONE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it is. x(x+2)+18(x+2) (x+2)(x+18)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factor the following polynomial: x2 – 14x + 24 (x – 2)(x – 12) (x – 2)(x + 7) (x – 6)(x – 4) (x – 14)(x + 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The technique here is identical.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IT IS STILL HARD FOR ME

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you try it at least?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES I GOT CONFUSED

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I GOT STUCK IN THE PROCESS OF DOING IT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What numbers multiply to 24 and add to -14?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IS IT THE FIRST ONE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes
