how to connect two computers using ethernet cable in windows 7?
Connect them in what capacity? If you are trying a direct connect you will need to use a crossover cable. If you are using a hub/switch/router you will need a pair of ethernet cables. If you are using "connect" as an ambiguous way to describe networking then you will need to add them to the same homegroup, workgroup, or domain.
I will add to eSpeX's answer above. Some computers no longer require crossover cables to speak to each other directly. Macs, for example, are able to use either a crossover cable or standard ethernet cable. So certainly give a regular cable a shot before buying something else. Best of luck.
i have my wifi modem, and i want to connect my Desktop with my lappy, thn wht is the process? coz i already tried crossover cable directly but its not worked.. any suggestion ?
Networking can be a rather complex issue as there are many things that can affect connectivity. Start with the physical layer and verify the computers are connected to your router. Next check the data and network layer and ensure that your systems are obtaining an IP and that they are on the same subnet. Once these steps have been verified you have confirmed that they are "connected" and your issue is now with windows and their sharing. Check to see that they are part of the same workgroup and then set up the homegroup. You should be able to view the public folders through your network and sharing center. Beyond these steps you might need to call your local techie or hit up google.
Aha. Right. You're going to need to manually assign IP addresses to the computers. Forgot about that. Google search how to do that for your version of Windows. Should be able to find something.
thanks , its helpfull
