can someone show me the steps to find the difference: (-5x^2 + 2x – 5) – (7x^2 – 2x – 3)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

im always glad when people ask for steps so i shall help...the key thing to note is to DISTRIBUTE the minus sign into the quantity (7x^2 - 2x - 3) therefore... -5x^2 + 2x - 5 - (7x^2) - (-2x) - (-3) that will give you -5x^2 + 2x - 5 - 7x^2 + 2x + 3

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

you can solve it from there right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am totally lost,

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm okay..which part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you make -(- which makes it a positive then i a lost

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm i thought so...what if i rewrite it as (-5x^2 + 2x – 5) + [–1(7x^2 – 2x – 3)] this means that you multiply the quantity 7x^2 - 2x - 3 by -1 then add
