Given a binomial distribution with n = 21 and p = 0.76, would the normal distribution provide a reasonable approximation? Why or why not?

Is this Statistics?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The value of n is too small for the normal approximation of the binomial distribution to be applied. The basic reason being that the binomial distribution is discrete and the normal distribution is continuous therefore large values of n are necessary for the approximation to be reasonable. The Limit Theorem of De Moivre and Laplace covers the situation.
