OpenStudy (nastech):

what does EIDE stand for

OpenStudy (nethwa):

Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics, an improved version of the IDE. An EIDE is an ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment).

OpenStudy (nastech):

thanks, is SATA the same as EIDE then?

OpenStudy (nethwa):

No, a SATA is an improvement of the ATA/IDE/EIDE. While ATA/IDE/EIDE use parallel bit-transport, which inherits a great loss of bits, the SATA (Serial-ATA) uses a serial bit-transport with a bit-loss of nearly zero. If you want to know more about this here is an interesting article about ATA and SATA: http://www.geeks.com/techtips/2005/techtips-010605.htm And IDE and EIDE: http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-ide-and-eide/

thanks a lot that helps
