Solve |2x+1|-3 >6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First add 3 to both sides. 2x + 1 > 9 Subtract 1. 2x > 8 Divide. x > 4

That the first one the second one I got -5 is it right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, you're supposed to have a set of answers for these kind of problems. So x > 4 is only gonna be half of your answer. You have to flip the > sign to be < and change the sign of the 6 to -6. |2x + 1| - 3 < -6 Again, add 3. 2x + 1 < -3 Subtract 1. 2x < -2 Dividdeeeee. x < -1.

So it's x > 4 AND x < -1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why equal 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't it 2x+1<-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No because to find the other part of the set, you have to swap the greater than/less than sign and flip the sign of the number with it. So since the first problem is > 6, the second one would be < -6.

Oh ok thank you very much :)
