Can anyone explain to me how to find the central angle of a circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you know what a metric system i then you can get your answer through that

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

sure.. @RandiHobbs you need to compute it in a specific problem or you want to understand the general idea ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was given a pie chart, would you like me to draw it out?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

draw it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

erggg one moment, please. I drew it and it wouldn't post, let me try agian.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ok... press Post and wait for sometime..lol sometimes it freezes

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ok. there is only one rule 1 Full Circle = 360 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

other 34%, Potatoes 8%, carrots 11%, Green Beans 12%, Corn 15%, Brocoli 20% In the circle graph, what is the measure of the central angle for green beans and carrots combined? Round to the nearest whole number.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so all grocery stuff huh :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

360 degrees = 100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hah, novanet is very original, isn't it?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so, 1 degree = \[\frac{100}{360} \]

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

green beans are 12% carrots are 11 % right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so you want to know what is the "central angle" representing 12+11 = 23 %

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I suppose, i'm not entirely sure. That's why i asked :3

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\[23 \times \frac{360}{100}\]

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

since 100 percent corresponds to 360 degrees, 23 percent corresponds to 23 x (360/100) degrees. can you do the arithmetic?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

@RandiHobbs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No exactly =\ but can you explain it to me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just multiply 23 and 360/100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

414/5?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats right. you have calculator ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you have to round the answer to nearest whole number, right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes and yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

82.8?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

great.. whats the answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

83

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

perfect.. .
