-15r – 8 = 37
By our ever so useful but usually overlooked "Addition property of Equality", We can add 8 to both sides and preserve equality: -15r - 8 + 8 = 37 + 8 -15r = 45 Another useful but overlooked property "Multiplication property of Equality" We can multiply (-1/15) to both sides and preserve equality: (-15r)(-1/15) = 45(-1/15) This gives us r = -3 :D
I made a typo, sorry

You know, there's a shortcut to the Addition property called Transposition

Yeah, I'll show you... -15r - 8 = 37 In this sort of linear equation in just one variable, what we want to do is bring all the terms with r (or any variable really) to one side, and bring the others to the other side... Sounds confusing? Let me demonstrate: -15r - 8 = 37 We want to bring the (-8) to the other side, along with the other term with no r. Imagine it like this: We take the (-8) and bring it to the other side BUT we change its sign. so it simply becomes -15r = 37 + 8 get it? :)
Trust me, you won't want to go through the tedious steps of the Addition property, especially in the case of longer linear equations :)
