\[\left(\begin{matrix}a^4 \times a^6 \\ a^2\end{matrix}\right)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide these....with steps please. Do I multiply the numerator first? Or divide then multiply?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[\frac{a^4\times a^6}{a^2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it does not matter but I will multiply first, the division bar was left out of your expression btw \[\frac{a^4\times a^6}{a^2}=\frac{a^{4+6}}{a^2}=\frac{a^{10}}{a^2}=a^{10-2}=a^8\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[x^n\times x^m=x^{n+m}\] \[\frac{x^n}{x^m}=x^{n-m}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply like bases: add exponents divide like bases: subtract the denominator's exponent from the numerator's exponent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i know but if you divide first you come up with a different answer.....so should I multiply (like you did) or divide first? Confused about order of operations on this problem.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[\frac{z^a\times z^b}{z^c}=z^{a+b-c}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you divide first you get something like \[a^{4-2}\times a^6=a^2\times a^6=a^{2+6}=a^8\]

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

hmm.................. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is ur demand actually @algebraprobs

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

didn't u gt?
