What is the difference between a postulate and theorem in Geometry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They're both the same thing, except postulates are just informative while theorems are used in proofs. Postulates aren't.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A postulate is a universal fact that does not need support while a theorem needs supporting evidence?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no a theorem is already confirmed. I know it sounds like it's derived from the word "theory," but the reason people use theorems in proofs is because it's already proved. A postulate may contain a shortcut or something of the sort, informing the student of certain details.
