What reproductive benefits do angiosperms have over mosses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: what role does water play in moss reproduction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure I understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Moss sperm is flagellated (like human sperm) and swims, so it needs water to get from point A to point B. Do you know how angiosperm sperm is transported?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Honestly not really.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok... you need to look at some plant life cycles! After you've done that, if you have any further questions, just ask.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the answer be that the angiosperms can reproduce without water or during a drought while mosses would not be able to because they have flagellated male gametes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is one reproductive advantage that angiosperms have, yes. Angiosperm sperm cells are hidden away and protected from drying out in pollen grains, so they can be transported in a wide variety of different ways. This has helped angiosperms conquer land.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i actually just had that same question yesterday, Moss reproduction a lot is left up to chance compared to the flowering plants, so they have to make a lot of spores.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are the differences between angiosperm and moss life cycle?? in detail.
