If equilateral triangle ABC is cut by three lines as shown to form four equilateral triangles of equal area, what is the length of a side of one of the smaller triangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you there ujjwal?

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess I am the one asking all of the Geometry questions

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

the length of smaller triangle seems to be a/2 (by intuition)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the smaller triangles looks to be 1/4 the area of the big triangle, the sides should be sqrt(1/4), or 1/2 the length of the sides..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

half of 12 is 6

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

yes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the answer?

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

of course it is!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow... that triforce isn't all that awesome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we need the Zelda Triforce!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol
