Which point is a solution to the following system of inequalities? x + 3y –6 2x – 5y > 10

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You forgot to supply the answer choices and your first inequality is missing the inequality sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(3, 0) (4, –2) (–3, –2) (1, 3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats because its > but also underlined.. oops

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You check each point to see if it satisfies both inequalities. For example, let's check (3,0) x + 3y > –6 3 + 3*0 > –6 3 + 0 > -6 3 > -6 ... true 2x – 5y > 10 2*3 – 5*0 > 10 6 - 0 > 10 6 > 10 ... false So (3,0) is NOT a solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is 1,3?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Let's check it x + 3y > –6 1 + 3*3 > –6 1 + 9 > -6 10 > -6 ... true 2x – 5y > 10 2*1 – 5*3 > 10 2 - 15 > 10 -13 > 10 ... false So (1,3) is NOT a solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay it has to be 4, -2 if its not i give up on math

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Let's check this one as well x + 3y > –6 4 + 3*(-2) > –6 4 - 6 > -6 -2 > -6 ... true 2x – 5y > 10 2*4 – 5*(-2) > 10 8 + 10 > 10 18 > 10 ... true So (4,-2) is indeed a solution

WHOOHOO

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Third times the charm :), but no worries, you'll a better hang of it with more practice.
