The following is a question that was on a test that I recently wrote. I need a break down of the type on sentence structure, sentence component and importance of the first part of the sentence to the overall meaning of the question being asked. The sentnce/question is : If a horse races in the name of a partnership; would one of the partners be able to claim on his/her own? Your help is appreciated
Well this Sentence or question contains one dependent clause and one independent clause so it is a Complex sentence. It is in a question structure
Thank You. Can you break down the component structure into subject, verb, etc of the first part (dependent clause) and the second part. The writer of the question claims that the first part of the structure is irrelevant to the meaning of the question and that the part of the question after the semi-colon is the only relevant part.
"horse, races" and "one, would be able" You should use a comma instead of a semicolon. If the first part is irrelevant, leaving it in the question is pretty tricky stuff. Normally we wouldn't have an irrelevant "if" statement.
