Need help naming a compound... picture of it here...

?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Well I would start off by finding the longest one, but since they're all the same, find the one with the most groups attached, which would be the center cyclobutane. It appears there are 4 cyclobutyl groups so I might say this is 1,2,3,4-tetracyclobutylcyclobutane.

isn't it a Spiro compound?

OpenStudy (kainui):

I've never heard of a spiro compound. I've only taken up to organic chemistry 1, so I could be wrong, but I don't see why that name I gave would be incorrect.

This seems to make it pretty clear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiro_compound

I also took Orgo Chem 1 and I have been tutoring 3 people and this is what their prof gave them as an example... I know it is a Tetraspiro[????}Hexadecane.... but I need to understand the numbering in the brackets

OpenStudy (kainui):

All spiro compounds have the infix spiro followed by square brackets containing the number of atoms in the smaller ring and the number of atoms in the larger ring excluding the spiroatom itself; the numbers being separated by a dot.

OpenStudy (kainui):

1-bromo-3-chlorospiro[4.5]decan-7-ol|dw:1340857796675:dw|

in my compound, there are four dots... how do I number those?
