How do I write the equation of the line which passes through (5, –2) and is parallel to x = 4 ? It doesn't tell me to do so in slope intercept form.

OpenStudy (hba):

the formula is y-y1=m(x-x1)

OpenStudy (hba):

y-5=4(x-5) y-5=4x-20 4x-y-15=0 is the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much! and how would i do the same for a line perpendicular, if you don't mind answering that as well?

OpenStudy (hba):

the formula is y-y1=-1/m(x-x1)

OpenStudy (hba):

one more thing i by mistaken wrote y1 as 5 in the solution i showed it should be -2 really sorry about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! :)
