How do you factor a trinomial in the form of ax^2+bx+c ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by using a quadratic equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any other way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Step 1 : find two factors of "a*c" such that their sum is equal to "b" Step 2 : split bx in terms of above factors Step 3 : factor by grouping

We have to find its roots using the quadratic equation. Then, if the roots are x1 and x2 we factor this way: a(x-x1)(x-x2) Maybe this is useful: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/SolveQuadraticEqnsII.aspx Take a look at the 3th example.
