Help with literary devices? PLEASE!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the literary device for this: The roaring of the tempest ...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or.... The shrieking of the wind?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

Personification. Giving human actions to things that aren't human I believe that's it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the first or second one?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

For both, wind can't shriek, only humans can do that..and a tempest is a storm, also not a human so it can't roar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks... What about: We know him who is the key?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

Hmm, no sorry, I don't understand that one :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mmkay.. It's fine! :) What about: Have the scattered flock been torn? Dark the desert paths and dreary? And one i saw with sword and shield? The battle is not long? Rome seized the scepter? We know him who is the key?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

:/ no, not really :/ maybe I can find someone else for you...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks... I need help, lol.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

we know him who is the key is using key as a symbol. so it's either a metonymy or metaphor. i think i'd rather go with emtaphor rather than metonymy
