OpenStudy (chaise):

Start by adding 4/5ths to both sides of the equation. Then resolve the fraction on the left hand side of the equation by using either the lowest common factor, or by cross multipltication, then multiply by 3 and divide by 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

say what now? im confused

OpenStudy (chaise):

\[\frac{-9}{2}=\frac{4y}{3}-\frac{5}{4}\] \[\frac{5}{4}-\frac{9}{2}=\frac{4y}{3}\] Do you know to cross multiply?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes just 5x2 and 9x4?

OpenStudy (chaise):

(5x2 -9x4)/2*4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok soo now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cross multiply again

OpenStudy (chaise):

\[\frac{-9}{2}=\frac{4y}{3}-\frac{5}{4}\] \[\frac{5}{4}-\frac{9}{2}=\frac{4y}{3}\] \[\frac{5*2-9*4}{4*2}=\frac{4y}{3}\] \[\frac{10-36}{8}=\frac{4y}{3}\] \[\frac{-13}{4}=\frac{4y}{3}\] \[\frac{3*-13}{4*4}=y\] \[\frac{-39}{16}=y\] I hope this is right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok this makes more sense and im about to test it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great! thanks for your help! wanna help me with a few others?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

guess not. thanks again!
