The speaker of a poem is the __________. A. voice the poet uses to tell a story or speak a poem. B. reader when he or she is reading the poem to him or herself. C. same person as the poet. D. poet when he or she is reading the poem in public.
Hmm.. what do you think? Since you're such a good 'guesser' :P
C? I'm guessing the poet is going to recite his poem?
Nope nope - the poem may have been meant for recitation by some other character than himself - not necessarily in first-person always too. The speaker is the person from whose point-of-view the poem is recited.
A. voice the poet uses to tell a story or speak a poem. The speaker of the poem is who it's point of view it is from. (i.e. child, adult, a cousin). It is not always the author who is the speaker. Does that make sense?
So the speaker of a poem is any person who has actually read the poem and is giving their thoughts about the poem?
example: Little Daddy Longlegs Little Daddy Longlegs played in the sun, Climbing up the front steps just for fun. One leg, two legs, three legs, four, Eight legs later he was at my door. He sat on the mat looking up at me, Till I opened the door an inch or three. I caught him in a jelly jar just for fun And put him in the window in the morning sun. But Little Daddy Longlegs curled up small, Looking like he wasn't even there at all. He just sat still looking up at me, So I opened the jar and set him free. Little Daddy Longlegs played in the sun, Climbing down the front steps just for fun. One leg, two legs, three legs, four, Eight legs later he was there no more. THAT POEM IS NOT FROM THE AUTHOR BUT FROM A KID'S POINT OF VIEW EVENTHOUGH WE DONT KNOW WHO THE KID IS.
Rigghhhht! Okaay! I get it! Thanks you two! :D
