In a recent survey, it was stated that Americans watch television on average four hours per day. Assuming that σ = 2 and using your class as the sample, conduct a hypothesis test to determine if the average for students at your school is lower. (n=45) DATA TO USE: class average is 1.4375. Check my work please.
So first I have to find hypotheses...so this is what I came up with: Ho: μ≥4 Ha: μ<4
Distribution to use for the test: N (4 , .2981)
It also asks whether I have to use z or t, so I used z, where z=-8.5949.
p-value=0?
wow that is a lot of television
What does the p value mean for this problem?
@anneflys you did this correctly, the p-value here is very, very small, almost 0 the p-value is the area under normal curve less than -8.59 standard deviations away from mean the smaller the p-value , the more likely the alternate hypothesis is true the standard significance level is 0.05, if p <.05 then reject Null hypothesis therefore in this problem since p is essentially 0, you can conclude that school average is less than 4 hours per day
