Predict the formula of the stable binary compounds that would be formed by the combination of the following pairs of elements. (a) Lithium and oxygen (b) Magnesium and nitrogen (c) Aluminium and iodine
Valencies!! Know about them?
it is b
Li - 1 O - 2 so Li2O n=but this is wrong my book says it is LIO2
@apoorvk
@Farmer_Wu i need formula for each one
yeah you're right for Lithium! next one - any guesses?
a:Li2O b:Mg3N2 c:AlI3
my book says it is LIO2
@Farmer_Wu - appreciate your helping him out, but your answer would be much more helpful if accompanied with a slight explanation. Thanks :] (even one example will do)
\(LiO_2\) exists hypothetically as in a super-oxide state for the O2 radical, but it is DEFINITELY NOT the most stable.
And umm, super-oxides are not very stable, let me tell you..
