azib, thats a bit backwards
formulas are good, but i perfer the steps subtract one point from the other and stack the y/x
\[\huge m = {y_2 - y_1 \over x_2 - x_1}\]

if we subtract the points, one option we get is (1, 6) -(3, 4) ------- -2, 2 do you agree?

I would like to note that you can choose to change the order and do y1-y2. but that also means you MUST change the order for the x's as well. Some times it's handy to do that when you have negative signs. :D
i avoid the whole "placing" of terms and go with the steps
