state the number of electrons that can fit in each of the first four electron shells. need help with this question as soon as possible please! :)

A basic trick is this: Number of orbitals in a shell:\[n^2\] n being the number of the shell. So for the first shell, the number of orbitals is 1^2 = 1. Since each electron orbital can hold a maximum of two shells, the number of electrons in a shell is \[2n^2\]. Do it for each of the shells from n = 1 to n = 4, add then up, and you get your answer.
