The Senate didn't have much of a problem with Wilson's proposal of his version of the Versailles Treaty, but it eventually had a problem one very important part of it that talked about US membership within the League of Nations. Many were concerned over being forced to adhere to the same kind of alliance that brought about WW1 and entangle them in a series of treaties that may force them into another potential conflict or enact a series of embargoes that they themselves may not have a problem with. So the answer that makes the most sense to me is (E). The Senate faction that didn't want the US to give up power over to the League, along with a group that refused to approve the Treaty for whatever reason, shot it down. The US didn't become a member of the League of Nations as a result.
