What effect would a lack of water have on the chlorophyll molecules in a chloroplast?
The chlorophyll molecules would store light until there was more water available.
phyically cholrophyl molecule will shrink
@aneek1 I don't think so
And actually, @Analiza, I don't think that's true either.
If there is less water in the chloroplasts, then everything would be packed together tighter. What else do think could happen?
Without water to provide electrons to photosystem(PS) II it would gradually develop a positive charge until it no longer received enough solar energy to release electrons. Without the electrons from PSII, PSI would also develop a positive charge and also stop functioning. I know all biological reactions are reversible but I wonder if electrons would run backwards on the electron transport chain because of the charge imbalance... If the question is asking for inter-molecular forces and such, I have no clue.
