Rank these elements according to FIRST ionization energy.
From highest to lowest please: K, Ca, Ge, Se, Br, Kr
starting from easiest to Ionize K, Ca,Ge, Se,Br, Kr All these elements want to be like a noble gas have 8 electrons in their shell so, -K has 1 electron more than Ar so it will easily let go of one of its electrons to become more like Ar -Ca has 2 electrons it wants to get rid of so it can be more like Ar, but it also has one more proton than K which means it holds onto its electrons a bit stronger thus it is harder to ionize than K -Ge has less protons than Se so it will give up electrons easier -Se has less protons than Br so it will give up electrons easier it is also closer to having the same amount of electrons as a noble gas compared to Ge -Br is very close to having the same amount of electrons as Kr and it has a lot of protons thus it is very electron negative. -Kr is a noble gas it has a nice ratio of electrons to protons thus it doesn't want to give up any electrons so it will not ionize easily
hope this helps
