Suppose a shipment of 140 electromic coomponents contains 3 defective components. To determine whether the shipment should be accepted, a quality-control engineer randomly selects 3 of the components and tests them. If 1 or more of the components is defective, the shipment is rejected. What is the probablitlity that the shipment is reected?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the shipment is not rejected only if all 3 random components are not defective. its easiest then to determine probability of shipment being accepted, then you can just subtract that from 1 to get probability of being rejected since there are only 2 options Probability of randomly selecting 3 working components is : (137/140)*(136/139)*(135/138) so probability of being rejected is: 1- (137/140)*(136/139)*(135/138)
