(1.09)^x=3

hero (hero):

Hint: Take logs of both sides to get x log(1.09) = log(3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can u elaborate more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to use the log function on your calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not a clue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u just show me how to set the problem up?

hero (hero):

I did show you how to set it up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm still not understanding how to solve this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, @Hero described the mathematics of the problem, and I suggested that you use your calculator to compute log(1.09) and log(3) to get x. What are you not getting?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The basic principle here is that log(a^b) = b log(a) Have you studied that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i found the log thing on my calculator. i did log(1.09) & got 0.03742649794. Then i did log(3) & got 0.4771212547. What now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have 0.03742649794 times x = 0.4771212547

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i put that into mathway & got x=12.7482

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THX 4 the help!!!!!
