16 < 3x + 1 < 4 Part 1: Solve the inequality above. Part 2: Describe the graph of the solution.

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

add -1 then divide by 3

OpenStudy (radar):

I am wondering how a quantity can be larger than 16 and at the same time be smaller than 4.???? Or x be greater than 5 and yet smaller than 1. Should make for an interesting graph.

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

u r right @radar i didn't notice that. i just looked at the middle expresion

OpenStudy (radar):

Is this an 'or' function like x can be greater than 5 or it can be less than 4? It certainly can't be an "AND" function. It is confusing, any other ideas @helder_edwin

OpenStudy (radar):

Maybe the problem is a result of some sadistic professor trying to twist a students thinking lol.

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

@radar i think u r right. it makes a lot more sense an OR than an AND

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

@ivandelgado r u gonna take part of this?

OpenStudy (radar):

Wait I just graphed it and it is not a value above 0 or less than 5 so it is a lot of things except those I am still confused and becoming exasperated.

OpenStudy (radar):

Never mind my graph is wrong.

OpenStudy (radar):

That zero would be a 1, is the domain of x all numbers less than 1 to - infinity and all numbers larger than 5 to positive infinity?

OpenStudy (radar):

I am applying the suggestions of adding -1, and dividing by 3 provided by @heider_edwin
