SAT Grammar Question

The correct answer is E. Let's go over the options: a. Technically, this makes sense and you could get by with it in normal conversation. However, it uses 2 things that the SAT hates : Passive voice and voice shift. Let's look at active vs passive: Active - Disney produced a cartoon. Subject-verb-object. Passive - Mickey was made to talk [by Disney]. Object-verb-subject. In the active, things are done directly. In the passive, things are done indirectly. But in this sentence, we jump from the active to the passive voice, which you should not do. Keep one voice. And in the SAT's case, avoid the passive voice, which is undesirable in terms of style in writing. b. -ing form of the verb 'to make' has to be used with 'to be', for one. More importantly, this is in the past tense, so the present tense 'making' should be 'made'. c. 'with' is used twice and is repetitive. Also, this option is really long and wordy. Tip: Be concise as possible and almost never choose an option with 'being' in it. Also, 'Micky talking' at the end doesn't really flow or make sense. d. 'Where' is the incorrect pronoun - you want 'in which'. Cartoons aren't physical places, you can't really be 'in' them. e. The only one that makes sense and avoids errors. Simple and to the point. :)
