change word phrase to an algebraic expression the difference between three times a number and 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the word "difference" in math means subtraction do you know where to start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i had this 3(x+7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can anyone help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OKay I think The answer is (3*x) - 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand why though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

OpenStudy (moonlight10198):

3x-7 (like Kezia said) because when it says a number it means a variable, or x because it could be any number. Difference would be x in 8-2=x. It's the amount of number distance (number distance? lol) between two numbers. I can explain it differently if you still don't get my wording.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then (3*x) is for the 3 times a number

OpenStudy (moonlight10198):

and the difference between that 3x and 7.

OpenStudy (moonlight10198):

sorry for stealing your spotlight :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As I said Difference means subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is no spotlight to steal... its all about helping others... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummm okay then

OpenStudy (moonlight10198):

lol
