I'm working on this factoring problem & they give an example & I'm not sure how they got to it, could any one help me out by explaining. x^3-x^2+x-6 -----> (x-2)(x^2+x+3) I'd appreciate any help
My thinking is that we'd factor out an x but when I do that I don't get whats in the second parenthesis
also if wouldn't I not be able to factor out the X because there is not an X by the 6 ?
So I have to use the difference of squares formula ?
One moment
It's the correct answer, I just verified it... now I have to work it.
But it's not solved via that formula
So it appears they took a third of the outside term.. being x - 2... minus because in the original problem it's -6 (-6/3=-2)
so from there they filled in the blanks... let me get my pen
are you still with me here so I can explain? let me know
so lets start w/what we know
